Q&A With Shirley Goss of Family Care Clinics

Shirley Goss is the Clinic Nurse Manager at Family Care Clinics of Bates County Hospital. The clinics are located in Adrian and Butler and serve 26,000 patients annually. Shirley has worked in rural health for seven years. She started her career in healthcare as an LPN for 15 years. Then she went back to school and became an RN, graduating from St. Luke's in 1991. She was drawn to work in rural health by the need for quality healthcare in small communities. Every clinic's work and experiences are unique. CMS Updates Guidance on Medicare Tobacco Cessation Billing

CMS has released updated guidance on the requirement that RHCs report the HCPCS code for each service furnished, along with the revenue code, on Medicare claims for services provided on or after April 1, 2016. Coinsurance and deductible are waived for certain approved preventive health services (see Table 1 below). When a preventive health service is the primary service for the visit, RHCs should report modifier CG on the revenue code 052x service line with the preventive health service. Medicare will pay 100% of the all-inclusive rate for the preventive health service. Statewide Managed Care Update

Bids for the statewide Medicaid managed care contracts were due last Monday, August 1. The following companies submitted responses: Aetna Medicaid Administrators LLC Home State Health Missouri Care United Healthcare Aetna Better Health of MO LLC According to Mo HealthNet's most recent timeline, the contracts will be awarded October 1. The RFP says no more than three contracts will be awarded. Open enrollment for participants is scheduled to start January 20, 2017, with auto-enrollment beginning April 14. Services under the new contracts will run May 1, 2017 to June 30, 2018.
