January Legislative Update

The Missouri legislature has wrapped up its first full week of the 2016 legislative session, and several issues impacting rural health clinics are moving forward. It is essential that rural health clinics’ needs be represented in these discussions so we can maximize opportunities to serve patients and secure fair reimbursement. In the FY 2016 budget, the General Assembly passed language directing the Department of Social Services to expand the use of managed care for non-ABD Medicaid patients statewide. According to the department’s timeline, the RFP will be released at the end of April, bids will be due in July, contracts will be awarded in October, and services will begin in May 2017. Rep.

MARHC Member Spotlight: Laura Wells

Laura Wells is the Director of Clinic Operations for Healthway Primary Care, Austin Plaza Primary Care, Potosi Rural Health Clinic, and WCMH Urgent Care in Potosi, Missouri. These clinics, which are operated by Washington County Memorial Hospital, serve about 59,000 patients each year and are a critical source of care in the community. Laura is especially proud that her clinics offer a wide array of services to care for patients more comprehensively. Chronic Care Management Webinar

As of January 1, rural health clinics may receive additional payment for the costs of chronic care management (CCM) services provided to certain Medicare beneficiaries. Eligible patients must have two or more serious chronic conditions. If your clinic has questions about CCM services, you are invited to join the National Association of Rural Health Clinics (NARHC) for a technical assistance webinar. Speakers from CMS will present on service delivery requirements, signing up patients, and billing for CCM. The webinar is scheduled for Tuesday, January 19 from 2:00 to 3:00 pm ET.
